The Nigeria Centre for Illness Management Director-Basic, Chikwe Ihekweazu, has been appointed because the World Well being Organisation’s assistant director-general of Well being Emergency Intelligence.
This was disclosed in a letter signed by the WHO Director-Basic, Tedros Ghebreyesus, on Tuesday.
Mr Ihekweazu will start his tenure on November 1.
“I’m happy to welcome Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu as an assistant director-general for Well being Emergency Intelligence from November 1, 2021,” the letter stated, “He’ll lead the work on strengthening pandemic and epidemic intelligence globally, together with heading the WHO Hub for Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence in Berlin.”
Mr Ihekweazu, born in Germany, has served in varied public well being positions, together with the South African Nationwide Institute for Communicable Illnesses, the UK’s Well being Safety Company, and Germany’s Robert Koch Institute.
Mr Ihekweazu graduated from the Faculty of Drugs, College of Nigeria, and received his grasp’s diploma in Public Well being from the Heinrich-Heine College, Dusseldorf, Germany.
In 2003, Mr Ihekweazu was awarded a fellowship for the European Programme for Intervention Epidemiology Coaching in the UK.
In 2008, Mr Ihekweazu served as a marketing consultant medical epidemiologist on the UK’s Well being Safety Company, offering emergency companies and recommendation to the Nationwide Well being Service (NHS), managing the South East of England’s Regional Epidemiology Unit (REU) catering to over 10 million folks.
